In the current edition, the Code recognizes that other methods can be used to assure safe installations, but these methods must be acceptable to the authority enforcing the Code in a particular jurisdiction. The Code uses a prescriptive model, outlining in detail the wiring methods that are acceptable. The Code is produced by a large body of volunteers from industry and various levels of government. Code revisions are now scheduled on a three-year cycle. The current (25th) edition was published in April of 2021. The first edition of the Canadian Electrical Code was published in 1927. The Canadian Electrical Code, CE Code, or CSA C22.1 is a standard published by the Canadian Standards Association pertaining to the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment in Canada.
